Magical Holiday Hot Chocolate

Take one sip ... it might just change your life.

Magical Holiday Hot Chocolate

You will need:

  • 8 cups 2% reduced-fat milk
  • 3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 ounces semisweet chocolate, finely chopped
  • 12 candy canes
  • 3/4 cup miniature marshmallows
  • Whole grated nutmeg (optional)

Directions:

  1. Combine milk, brown sugar, cocoa, vanilla, nutmeg, and semisweet chcolate in a large saucepan over medium-low heat.
  2. Cook 25 minutes or until chocolate melts and mixture is smooth, stirring occasionally.
  3. Serve with candy canes and marshmallows.
  4. Garnish with whole grated nutmeg, if desired.

Festive Beverage Coasters

Put your tasty holiday beverage down on these festive coasters.

Festive Beverage Coasters: Even your beverage wants to get into the holiday spirit!

You will need:

  • A sheet of cork
  • Various colors of paint
  • Scissors
  • Glitter
  • Paintbrushes

Directions:

  1. Cut out a triangle, circle, or square shape from the cork. It should be about 4 inches in diameter.
  2. For a Santa hat coaster - paint a base layer of red on the triangle cork. Throw some glitter on there to make that red really pop!
  3. When the red paint has dried, paint a white circle at the top of the triangle and paint a white strip accross the bottom. Throw a little more glitter on there.
  4. You should now have what resembles a Santa hat.
  5. Use the other shapes to paint more festive holiday images like a reindeer, a present box, or a Christmas tree. Just make sure you add a lot of glitter to make them stand out.

Red Felt Napkin Holders: Keep your utensils looking stylish for the holidays!

You will need:

  • A sheet of red felt
  • A glue gun
  • Glue sticks
  • Glitter
  • Festive ribbon
  • Holiday knick-knacks like mini candy canes

Directions:

  1. Plug in your hot glue gun with a glue stick inserted and let it heat up. Cut out an 8 x 12-inch piece of red felt.
  2. Lay the felt flat and start by rolling one side towards the center for about two inches. Glue it down. Repeat on the other side. What you should have left should resemble a scroll.
  3. Take the bottom of the felt and fold it about 3 inches towards the center. Glue it down on the sides. This part will stand as the pocket for your utensils.
  4. Take the festive ribbon and wrap it around the pocket area of the felt. Glue it down on the backside of the felt.
  5. Place a strip of glue down both the right and left scrolls and sprinkle glitter on them.
  6. Place your candy canes on the glittered glue strips. Let everything dry. Put your utensils in these stylish holders before your holiday feasts!

Heavenly Lemon Merenge Drops

Heavenly Lemon Merengue Drops: Give these a try with the hot chocolate!

You will need:

  • 6 large egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 teaspoon freshly grated lemon peel
  • Decorating bag

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees F. Line two large cookie sheets with parchment.
  2. In medium bowl, with mixer at high speed beat egg whites, cream of tartar and salt until soft peaks form. With mixer running, sprinkle in sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time, beating until sugar dissolves and meringue stands in stiff, glossy peaks when beaters are lifted. Gently fold in lemon peel.
  3. Spoon meringue into decorating bag fitted with 1/2 inch star tip. Pipe meringue into 1 1/2 inch stars, about 1 inch apart, on prepared cookie sheets.
  4. Bake meringues until crisp, but not brown for 1 hour 20 minutes, rotating cooking sheets between upper and lower racks halfway through baking. Turn off the oven and leave meringues to dry for 1 hour inside the oven. Remove the meringues from the oven. Repeat steps 1-4 with remaining meringue.
  5. Cool meringues completely. Remove from parchment with wide metal spatula. Store in tightly sealed container until ready to serve.
